After our day at Disneyland, B, his Mum, sister and I were ready to explore the French capital city. Luckily the Parisian weather Gods were feeling kinder than yesterday and there was actually a bit of blue skies above. We had a slow start but by 10am we were out the door ready to take on Paris.
B and I had already been to Paris six times combined so it was fun to play tour guide for his Mum and sister. That’s the one thing I never, ever will get used to. The fact that I know my way around city such as Paris (sort of) and can actually share truthful facts about the place. B had taken his Mum and sister around the Lourve and the Notre Dame the day before Disneyland so today was aimed at seeing the other big attractions in P-Town.
We started with the infamous Eiffel Tower where we intended to climb to the top. Catching the Metro to Trocadéro, we arrived at the site of the Palais de Chaillot, where Lady Eiffel was standing there in all her glory in the distance. This is one of the best places to see the Eiffel Tower, with the only downside being the slippery gypsies pestering you to buy keychains and what not.

Walking down towards the Lady herself, we enjoyed the sun that had begun to beam down on us – a nice change from the rainy day yesterday. We joined the super long line to climb to the top and about an hour later we were finally taken up the elevator to see Paris from up high. Unfortunately the very top was closed so we could only go to the second level, but the view over the city was still phenomenal. Unlike the Netherlands red roofed filled cityscape, the French capital was very white, with the gold top of Napoleon’s Tomb and the statues on Pont Alexander III sticking out. The people below us were ant-like and the Perspex floor made for a slightly daunting experience as we walked over the city, from about 60 metres high.

We stayed up there for awhile before descending back down to the safety of the ground. Heading in the direction of the Invalides, we kept turning back to enjoy the view of the Eiffel Tower with the green lawns glowing in the bright sun.

A quick lunch stop in the gardens of around Napoleon’s Tomb and B and I waited out in the sunshine while his Mum and sister witnessed the beautiful and extravagant tomb of Napoleon. We walked through the Invalides and down towards Pont Alexander III, where we people watched for a while on the bridge.

Crossing over the bridge we noticed a market on the footpath beside the Seine so we wandered down the Seine, checking out the markets. Beautiful old antiques, art, jewellery and furniture filled the market stalls and I could picture all these beautiful things filling my house… If only I had a house. And free postage to ship them to Australia

Much like yesterday, we realised the time had escaped us and despite the sun still being high in the sky it was nearing 7:30pm. We hightailed it over to the bohemian area of Montmatre to see the colourful Moulin Rouge. I’m a huge fan of the movie (and an even bigger fan of Ewan McGregor) so seeing this iconic red building with the large windmill on the roof was another big tick off my list. Little disappointed Ewan wasn’t there, would of been nice for him to sing ‘Your Song’ to me :p

We stayed for awhile before catching the Metro back to our stop at Nation and heading back to our hotel. I was meeting my dear friend C later that night and still had to make my way closer to her place. I said my goodbyes to B and his Mum and sister and B walked with me down to the Metro.
As they say ‘third times a charm’, Paris was still as wonderfully beautiful the third time as it was the first time I visited it. I don’t know when I will be back but I know I definitely will!
From the girl fell in love with the City of Love.
